Lisa's Party!

The day before Christmas Eve, the Merry girls got together for Lisa's personal shower / bachlorette party. While we kept it very low key, we still had a ton of fun! The night started out with gifts and some delicious red wine. (I'm normally not a fan but this stuff was good!) After that, the sisters went to Rosie's for dinner and drinks. Let's just say one drink was all we needed! Katie and I couldn't even see straight after our martinis! Ending up at Old Navy around 11pm to purchase velor jump suits rounded out the night. Lisa and Brock's wedding is just around the corner! Everyone is scrambling to get it put together but it's been fun and we are all looking forward to it. :-)

There are pictures from the late Old Navy velour jump suit run but I will NOT be posting those....I might not have 4 sisters anymore if I did!!

Driving, Biking and Cherry Delight

So, I finally took the stick shift car out on real roads, managing to only stall once at a 4-way stop. Of course, there was a car at each stop sign...wondering why I wasn't going. Oops! No one honked but I still felt a bit dumb...finally got going and mouthed the words "sorry" many times to those around me. Oh, well, they'll get over it!

I spent the afternoon helping to make special baked beans and made my first ever, Cherry Delight. The Merry cookbook calls it Cherry Cheese Cake but I remember it being called Cherry Delight growing up or maybe that's just what Grandma Merry used to call it.

Went on a 14 mile bike ride. For some reason it was really difficult today...more so than when I rode 20 miles a few weeks ago. Maybe my mind was on other things...perhaps it was the fact that some teenager in his car leaned out his window yelling "You f******* suck!" Odd yet, interesting, I thought. He wasn't even with anyone so wasn't really trying to show off for anyone. I felt sorry for him more than anything...

I was really digging my new bell that my parents got for me. I think I over used it at times but I liked having it.

I also enjoyed the new pouch they gave me. It's big enough to hold my phone, Kleenexes, band-aids, and cat treats. (Hey...don't judge...you never know when you might come across a stray cat (or someones pet cat for that matter). You must be prepared to feed them! Keep them happy!)

When we got home, I noticed something had pooped on me. A bird I guess. Ugh! Getting pooped on and yelled at by some random low-life wasn't really what I expected but I guess not everything is in my control!

Looking forward to dinner tonight with our friends. Pulled pork BBQ, ribs, beans, and cheery delight. My bike ride was a pretty good work out so I won't feel guilty about dinner. I set the table with the napkins my mom made. The idea is to wash and reuse.

Extra Mozzerella Cheese, Please!

Those of you who know me, know I rarely cook or bake. But, when I put my mind to it, I can make a mean chicken square or a tasty batch of baklava. Strange, right?!

Jeff had his father visit this past weekend for the NASCAR races. I figured I should cook something rather than having us eat out all weekend.

First, I made pizza dip. Jeff's cousin's wife gave me the recipe. She's made it in Memphis a couple times and we all loved it. It's nice and fattening...which is why it is so tasty. Very easy to make....layer a pie dish with cream cheese. Add chopped onion and pizza sauce. Top with bits of pepperoni and mozzarella cheese, a lot of it (...oh wait, maybe that's my modified version!). Cook for 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Then, enjoy with Frito scoops!!

The pizza dip was an appetizer. The chicken squares were for dinner. I've attached a picture of the recipe. It's a bit difficult to read (can click on it to get a larger version) but maybe I'll type it out if I become un-lazy tonight. :-) This picture is a page out of our Mom's Cookbook that she made all us daughters in 1999. The Chicken Square page, Monster Cookie page, and Chex Mix page are opened the most. =-)

Congratulations, Jennifer and Matt!

My sister, Jennifer, and her now fiance, Matt, got engaged Saturday night at their favorite eatery in Normal, Destihl! We are all so happy for them! This is so fun because as you see here, Jennifer and Lisa are going to be planning their weddings together!

This is what my diet has consisted of the past few days...

Needless to say, it hasn't been pleasant. However, I think this evening is my "turn around day" so I'm thinking I'll feel even better tomorrow morning. Must just be a summer cold. Lucky me! I've been very unproductive at home and at work (obviously) but hope to get back into the swing of things by tomorrow!

Right before this cold set on, I learned that Bert, my cat of 16 years, was finally put to rest. He has been going downhill the last few weeks or so. He was such a good kitty! We got him when I was in 9th grade. He lived a fantastic life and we'll all miss him for sure. This picture is from 2005 but honestly, he didn't look much different now than he did back then. He kept his good looks and never looked aged. :)

Merry Sister Weekend 2010

Well, all is quiet on the home front this evening. That's because Merry Sister Weekend 2010 has come to an end. That's sad to say but I've enjoyed looking back at our pictures so far. Megan and Katie, don't forget to send yours out! :) The weekend was a blast and what made it more fun is that the sisters were able to stay a day longer than usual due to Labor Day. Yay!

Friday evening, I picked Lisa up at the airport, then we drove to Jason's Deli for a quick salad bar (and free ice cream!) dinner. We then headed to volleyball. The weather was very nice...couldn't have asked for better weather. We then drove home and she got to see Fozzy's new lion cut and our newly tiled bathroom. We then got ready and awaited for Jennifer, Katie, and Megan who were in route from Normal, IL. Lisa and I had a fun time playing Bananagrams. The rest arrived around 12:30am...we thought we'd head to bed shortly after that but who were we kidding...once we all got "reunited", it was just a talk/laughing session until nearly 3am! :)

Saturday morning, we awoke and got ready for a day at the neighborhood pool. It looked VERY nice outside...not a cloud in the sky. The walk to the pool was very pleasant...unlike the temperature of the water. It was FREEZING!!! Myself, Katie, and Megan took the plunge...jumped right in. We felt like ice cubes. Jennifer and Lisa slowly waded in. We tried to stay very active to get warm...it didn't work too well though! Either way, we all had fun though...right, Katie?

Saturday night we got ready, had our usual photo shoot (thanks, Jeff!) and headed to church. Then we ventured to Mi Ranchito for dinner and drinks. We enjoyed some tasty food, wine, and margaritas, and LOTS of laughs. (People in restaurants who get seated next to us must hate us!) After dinner, we picked up some mud slide mix and vanilla ice cream. Jennifer and Megan made those while the rest of us played bananagrams. It was a fun night.

Sunday, we headed to SPIN Pizza for lunch and then back to Town Center for some shopping for Jennifer's new office. We then headed home and they all took naps! For dinner, we headed to the Cracker Barrel. And then that night we played 5-way solitaire...those who know us well, know that we can't go a weekend together and not play 5-way solitaire! And then, thanks to Megan for finally winning the pyramid game so we could go to sleep. ;-)

This morning I showed them to I-35 and they were on their way! It was a great time...I never laugh as much and as hard as I do when I'm with them! Next year, we'll be heading to the quad cities and Lisa will host!

Cape San Blas....I miss you!

Jeff and I returned from our vacation to Florida. We visited the Cape San Blas / Indian Pass / Port St. Joe area. I think we'll be going back sometime. It is the most relaxing place ever and pretty remote...hence the nickname "The Forgotten Coast."

I ordered a lot of pictures from Kodak so I hope to make a scrapbook of the vacation once those arrive.

Hope everyone is having a nice summer!

Emerald Sunset

This is where we are staying on our vacation later this summer. I absolutely can't wait to get there. I haven't been to Cape San Blas for about 9 years. I'm looking forward to this!

Forever

It has been forever since I've blogged. Looks like sinceThanksgiving! I hope to write a quick update when I get home--I'm currently in Illinois visiting my family. I'm using my iPhone blog press application to write this...I'm not sure how well it'll post. I'll leave you with a cute picture of my niece, Auttie Rose and will hopefully post more later!
